about adam cope
I was born in the south of England & remember staring into the clear water streams in Hampshire. They still sparkle & flow in my mind's eye.

'Glover's Island' - the river Thames - 1993.
I became 'a painter' early on. In my teens. A dream I still dream. The painter's métier
has given form & colour to my life. It pleases me....the paints,
the brushes, the slow making of a painting. I enjoy just looking at
things. It seems to me more than ever that eyesight is an incredible thing.

'Tourette' Watercolour. 2003. Adam Cope
About twenty years ago, I started teaching. It was a real revelation
to me that learning could be just as creative as painting a masterpiece.
Something about collaboration. Working with other people. I've worked in wide range of educational
settings. Now I particularly enjoy running residential painting courses. They bring together an interesting spectrum of people with a shared
passion for painting. The energy that a group of painters can generate is remarkable. I consider myself lucky as I too have learnt so much by being in contact with other painters, be they absolute beginner level students or Leonardo da Vinci.

'La Vallée de Bergerac' Oil. 2002. Adam Cope
The southwest of France was the place of happy childhood holidays for
me. Sunny fields full of scents & warmth. Butterflies & high blonde grass. Then came the long summers
of inspirational painting jaunts. Then I married a lady from Bergerac,
had children & settled here in 1998. Been here ever since.
